Remy hair extensions have taken great leaps and bounds in technological advancement in recent years and are quickly becoming the preferred choice for women. Long gone are the days of being self conscious and homebound nursing an ill thought out hair style. Thin, sparse or overly short tresses can quickly and easily be corrected with the aid of extensions, allowing women and men alike to experiment with any number of new styles whenever the mood strikes.

As is the case with most products available online, the quality and workmanship of any type of merchandise is co-dependent upon a number of factors. In the world of hair extensions the quality of the product depends not only upon the manufacturer, but also the region in which it was sourced, how it was arranged, if it has been chemically treated in any way and also the ethnicity of the hair itself. Remy hair extensions are considered amongst hair dressers to be the best in the business due to the fact that the follicles and cuticles are kept intact and is arranged in the same direction as would be found growing on a persons head.

Housed within the remy hair extensions umbrella are six distinct categories, or quality ratings that are determined by the degree of processing, strength and also length of the hair. The top three are classed in the virgin hair category and the remaining three are considered to be non-virginal. Virgin hair is has never been coloured, permed or chemically treated in any way shape or form. As such, no stripping or damage is done to the extensions, leading to an increased level of strength and resiliency. Non-virginal remy hair is still of excellent quality, however it has undergone colour treatment.

The term remy hair extensions are often used inappropriately by companies within this industry. This is extremely unfortunate as it inevitably leads to consumer doubt and mistrust. An authentic remy product is hair that has been tied or braided before being harvested from the head; this collection method ensures that all the cuticles are arranged in the one direction as is found naturally. Remy hair extensions can either be single drawn or double drawn. Single drawn extensions by and large make up the majority of hair extensions available on the marketplace today, seeing as though they are much easier to process.

Single drawn hair basically means that the hair has been sorted on the basis of length and all notably shorter strands are removed giving the hair extensions a layered, slightly tapered appearance. Double drawn hair is considerably more expensive and requires much more sorting then single drawn, bearing in mind that no short lengths are left in the extensions and the hair is all of the same length. As one could imagine this is extremely time consuming and costly, but nonetheless produces superior quality hair extensions of uniform length and thickness.
